Potential RP Content (Your opinion required)

After considering our RPs for some time, I have come to realize that every one of them has been character centric. The character, the individual, the personality... they're always the focus in the games we've been playing. Also, we tend to do a lot of medieval type games, but that's just because those are fun.

I was thinking about starting my own RP, but I wanted to do something entirely different. I would like from you, my fellow RPers, your input so as to determine whether my idea would be well-met, or if it would sink into the abyss of anonymity.

What I would like to propose is a space RP with ship-to-ship combat. We would each start out with our own ship which can be customized at the beginning of the RP by spending Creation Points (CPs) to buy the basic chassis and then upgrade it with weapons, shields, enhancements, better armor, thrusters, power core, etc. Your character would be the main pilot, and you would spend CPs to increase his skills in piloting, gunnery, maneuvering, navigation, and more. You can also buy additional crew members for your ship should you have a vessel that requires a staff of more than one. The quality of additional crew members would depend on the amount of CPs you spend on them.

Without revealing too much about the plot, it would include all of our players working together and earning money throughout the game. The money would be spent to improve your ship, hire new crew, buy a whole new ship, whatever.

Combat would be turn-based and likely set in a map divided up into a grid of some sort. I'll work on the specifics if there is some interest in this. If not, then no need to even bother, really. There are different types of weapons, armor, and shields, and certain weapons do more damage against different types of targets, and where the damage is delivered and the type of damage affects the target's performance in different ways. Thus, you could take out an enemy's thrusters and weapons and render him helpless. It would, of course, be much harder to target specific parts on an enemy ship than just the ship as a whole

Okay, so tell me what you think and if any of you have had experience with this sort of thing in the past and know some snags to avoid or believe this won't work then please let me know.
Demecas

1. must have furries in it.

2. I say go ahead and develop it more. right now I can't give yeay or neay.

3. once you have it more orginized on how you want it to work pass it by me. I will talk it over with Ginny. and her and I will decide on it from there. weather we actually play it or not is up to us but if it looks too disorginized from what you give us I will then give you two choises. work on it more or give it up.

4. as your idea from what it sounds like is going to have to be very very very orginized.
ginpu

1) I'll agree with Demecas that I can't say oh or ah right now.

2) As far as organization goes, I know you can be organized, so I am not worried about that factor.

3) Furries shouldn't be a factor, I mean the dragon RP is furless.

4) Right now it's sounding like Eve, an online game that the boyfriend plays. Yes, you have a character, but it's just a portrait. The thing you control in the game itself is the ship. You skill up, you are the pilot. Check it out, there's a free 2 week trial I believe for the game, and your computer, Durandal, should have no problem handling the game.

5) As far as snags go its never the story that snags, it usually is the players that snag up the story line if they aren't restrained and fully educated on the ramifications of their actions.

6) When did I become an authority on approving an RP? Actually when did RPs need approval? Mine didn't and as far as I saw neither did Salem's. Kinda silly to try and approve now. It's quite simple. If it fails it gets thrown in the forum of we forgot about you.

LOL
Durandal

I'm not asking for approval, and I'm also not asking if my idea as it is now is acceptable.

I'm only asking if anyone would be interested in this sort of RP.

My classes are keeping me rather busy right now, and I see it as a shame to completely develop the entire system only to find out the general population here wouldn't enjoy the game anyway.

And thanks, I'll check out Eve. I've played multiple games already from which I've been drawing ideas.
Spirit Wolf

I like the idea. I've even started working on the ship and character, and will change if necessary. I'm looking forward to it.
Durandal

Well thank you, GH! I am surprised.

I was fairly certain no one would bother expressing any interest and this idea would sink away into the depths of forgotten memories. I suppose I shall devote myself once more to developing the system for the game.
Spirit Wolf

Hey, you don't have to ask, just throw the sign-up in when you're done with the planning and hope for the best. That's what I did, and my RP is doing somewhat well.

Question, there will be space pirates, right?
Durandal

Naturally. In fact, it will be one of the starting career choices.
Spirit Wolf

Okay then. Also, don't expect my ship to be the leviathan. I like my spaceships to be fast and maneuverable. So, mine will be like the millennium falcon.
Dr. Salem

Sweet, will their be alien races that can latch onto our ships that live in the vacuum of space?
ginpu

heehee
Durandal

Not a 'race' per se, but a creature like that could appear. There will be forms of space parasites, although I'm not sure it will come into play.
Spirit Wolf

Ok, in that case, I'm NOT naming my ship the Proteus. Uh uh. No way.
GaryWilliams

I've already begun planning my fleet's capital ship.....ok not really, but you know.

If you could hold off til september that woudl be awsome (gives you plenty of time to figure things out and I'd be around to actually play)
Durandal

I can hold off till September quite easily. Three games going at this point is plenty.

And I just want you to make sure you know, everyone gets the same amount of Creation Points which will be spent on your starting equipment, abilities, crew members, etc... You will only have enough for one ship, and only a smaller ship. As the game goes on the unit of currency will change to the credit, and as you earn credits you can use them to buy a whole new vessel (You can sell the old one for partial credit and transfer your old equipment to the new one though, so buying a larger vehicle isn't too hard to do).
GaryWilliams

>.<

Small ships ain't my speciality.......unless it be built to engage capital ships
BlackBlade

You have my go ahead. And don't worry I'll start fresh for this one... So no Executor. Though I like the looks of it....
Zymeth

Yeah, space good... tired, can't form sentence...
Demecas

heres the thing. the way it sounds. GH there would be no way for you to do the millenium falcon from the start. you would be small and have to work up to it. that is what it sounds like.

Eve online so have to go check up on demecas on there. hee hee use a destoryer class. and when i say destroyer i mean it. I get paid to protect minners in .4 - .6 space. If i had kept up with it I could have well been doing 0.0 space missions with some cool ass ships right now. just some of the skill now take so danm long to learn. suggesstion. get all the learning skills up first. makes it so much easier. I know I know you want to learn the ships and guns and other things so you can be a bad ass. it may take you 2 to 4 months to learn all the learing skills including the advanced ones. but here is something to think about. without them it could take you 5 months just to learn one skill all the way up of the other without them or 5 days. you pick. Mine mine mine mine mine mine mine mine mine mine. thats what you want to do. and if you ever see a caldri desroyer out near a mine feild mining and it's piolet is demecas. well she's armed for combat and there are normaly pirates that come around that area. litterally.

oh and for mining make sure you get your minning skills up and your refining skills up it so helps. ok I'm going to stop about eve. i could tell you so much. just do missions get stronger wait for skills and never ever go unisured or uncloned. always buy the best of both. trust me on this.
Durandal

Actually a Millennium Falcon type ship is completely feasible. It isn't that big a freighter and it has been heavily modified, so the actual parts aren't that expensive. The biggest thing you'd need to spend points on would be mechanic skills and improvisational repair skills. Then get yourself a nice engine and tweak it.

Trust me, with what I have planned it will be completely doable.
Demecas

I get that but if you also remember the falcon was also suppouse to be the fastest and most manuverable ship in the galaxy. thats going to take some freaken point to also add on to that

lots of points for the speed
Lots of points for the manverability
lots of points for mechanical
Tons of points for skill to run it.
points for people to help run it as the person flying it can't do repairs or fire the guns.
and if you think of how GH is.

Tons of points spent on weponry.

I'm not saying it's not feasiable just not likly to make it the way you want it as an end result at first is all.
Durandal

Well, I never mentioned the skill to run it or any weapons or crew.

If he did get a ship that good it wouldn't be able to do much in any combat, and he likely wouldn't be able to control it. I was just pointing out that it will be possible. Not recommended, but certainly possible.
Spirit Wolf

AUGH!!!! When I use space ships, I focus on different parts. I go for speed and mobility, and big weapons would slow it down. I'm investing more into speed, maneuverability, repairing, and piloting. Yes, I'm quite different with space ships.
ginpu

So Deme plays Eve as well? I'll have to have the Phiz say Hi's or something then. I don't play, but he does. He does salvaging and mining right now I believe.
Demecas

well kitten did play until her friend just seamed to dissappear so kittne hasn't been on it in a long time but dema does still have chars on it. will have to instal it as this computer never had it on it.
BlackBlade

I personally like Talyn from the TV show Farscape. Although it's going to be hard to recreate him here. For the simple fact that Talyn is a Biomechanoid, a living being capable of his own thoughts. He does need a pilot/ commander to operate. But had he also gets freaked out easily over rides the pilot and shoot at other ships (Including a hospital ship, a ship that was going to refit his weapons with passive one, and his mother, Moya, several times) But hey he was a baby, not even two years old, and kicked major butt.
GaryWilliams

*twitch*

The Falcon is in no way representative of her class (YT-1300 Corellian Freighter)

Solo probably could have bought a brand new ship for the credits he put into her.

then there's the hyperdrive....... (solo: Watch this leia: watch what?)
