Unlike the rest of those who have posted pictures, I didn't do anything whatsoever towards the creation of these images. I am artistically retarded, and so in order to show to you the ideas I have in my head concerning the physical appearances of my characters, I turned to a very familiar source of materials: Dynasty Warriors!

Ok, so I've always loved the look of the ancient Chinese warriors, but I've never had a reason to incorporate their style into my character. Well now, I still don't have a reason, but I'm going to anyway. I've posted these as links rather than images because they are rather large, and if you had to load them all at once it might cause some problems (it did on my old computer).

Alright, so Roland does not look Chinese, but his armor looks like that of Liu Bei (the middle one):

And here's another picture of Liu Bei's armor:

Roland's weapon is the Durandal (named after yours truly). Durandal changes its shape from that of a polearm to a zanbatou (buster sword or horse-slayer). I have pictures of these weapons and I think the resemblance is close enough that you can imagine them as being the same weapon transformed. Unfortunately, there are guys attached to the weapons, so please ignore them.

Here is a picture of Durandal in polearm mode:
http://i203.photobucket.com/albums/aa6/DurandalLiao/ZhangLiao.jpg
(Note the stance. That is Roland's common 'ready' stance.)

Here is a picture of Durandal in zanbatou mode:
http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/f/f6/Guan_Ping.jpg

And another picture of the zanbatou. (Yes I know it's mostly behind the Guan Ping but source material is rather scarce.)

So, yeah. I hope that helps!

Hm... Well, you didn't say Japanese at least, lol. And that zhanba- er, however you spelled it, isn't that the weapon they use on Bleach? (It's an anime) I think they said that or something similar. I can get a pretty good picture of your character in my mind, though. If you made a real picture (assuming you're as bad at art as I am) it could just ruin what we know of your image.

*Sigh* Yes, it would. The last attempt I made at an artistic creation was sixth grade, when art was still mandatory as an elective and I couldn't understand why the art teacher told us not to put the sun in the corner of every single picture.

Oh and yeah, I think a zanbatō was Ichigo Kurosaki first sword.

No, I didn't mean to capitalize it, sorry. A zanpakutō is a soul-cutting sword, which is obviously fictional, but it falls under the category of (or closely resembles) the real-life weapon, the zanbatō, which was used to take out the legs of the horses used by cavalry.

Zengetsu is Ichiago's sword's name. I will correct spelling later.

Stop watching the animes they ruin the story. Go read the mangas. I started watching the animes in fan sub shortly after picking up the first manga and realized that the story was rather different.

Sanoske from Kenshin also uses a huge sword like that. As does Guts from Berserk. I will have to check my mangas at home for proper spelling.

So if that's the armor and weapon, what does Roland himself look like?

Why, he looks like me, of course! (In otherwords he's dashingly handsome.)

Actually no. I don't have a picture of him, and I'm not really sure I could find one. With his armor on, only his head is exposed really, and I guess I could just describe his face to you. For some reason the face doesn't seem that important a part of his appearance, at least not so much as his weapon and armor. All faces kinda look the same, but armor and weapons really individualize a person, in my opinion.

Edit: Yeah, searching for an online face generator didn't work out like I had hoped... I'll just describe him later, I guess. I'm so lazy...

In the meantime, I have an update. Since I'm modeling my guy off of Chinese stuff, I' decided to change the names of his weapon's modes. No longer "polearm" and "zanbatou," it's now "guan dao" and "zhang ma dao."

They're the same thing, only in Chinese rather than English and Japanese.

And here's a video of someone using a zhang ma dao.
Obviously he's a lot less skilled and fast than a person in an RPG would be, and the weapon is a lot smaller and lighter too, but I thought it might still be helpful to see it in action.

Ok, I found a picture for his face. Now, let me explain. I've always kinda seen him as an anime character, and as I said he looks like me, so I was searching through pictures of anime online (don't do that unless you are alone, by the way) and I came across a Yu-gi-oh picture with a guy in it who looks a lot like me, and how I want Roland to look. Oddly enough, the character appears to be an unimportant extra, but the resemblance is just so perfect that I had to show you:

(He's the one in the middle)

He even has the same style hair as me. The only change needed to equate him to Roland would be to make his eyes watery and gray since Roland is blind.
